The Florida Supreme Court disbarred three lawyers in October.
Justices disbarred Nancy Louise Grier of St. Augustine after finding she twice failed to appear for jury selection in a client’s trial. Grier had filed motions to continue the case, then announced she was ready for trial, but still did not appear for jury selection.
Grier also accepted a retainer in an estate planning matter but did no work on it. The court found she behaved unprofessionally toward an alleged victim in a criminal case, and toward a process server and a relative of an opposing party in another case. She did not respond to Florida Bar inquiries about the incidents, file a written response to the formal complaints against her, or participate in the disciplinary proceedings.
Charles Edwin Lykes Jr. of Guangdong, China, was disbarred for failing to “diligently represent and adequately communicate with his clients.” The court found that Lykes failed to close an estate and seek discharge as personal representative in a probate case. That client had to hire another lawyer to pursue the matter. Lykes also failed to respond in a timely manner and did not respond in writing to the disciplinary complaint.
W. Jeffrey Barnes of Boca Raton was disbarred after the court held him in contempt for failing to submit a sworn affidavit notifying his clients and opposing counsel of an earlier suspension. That suspension stemmed from a separate contempt finding in June.
The court also suspended 11 attorneys in October:
— Nabil Ibrahim Abu Nahla of Miami Beach.
— Ginna Patricia Arevalo of North Miami Beach.
— Daniel Foster Dickenson of Boca Raton.
— Casey Reed Eldemire of Winter Park.
— Charlie Easa Farah Jr. of Jacksonville.
— Mark Andrew Fromang of Orlando.
— Reginald Dwayne Hicks of Fort Lauderdale.
— Kenneth Saint George Mair of Lauderhill.
— Manisha Maraj of Boca Raton.
— William Rudolf Ponall of Maitland.
— Claudia Jean Wheeler of Odessa.
