Another member of the Florida Senate has lined up behind Democrat Alex Vindman‘s U.S. Senate campaign.
Sen. Tina Polsky, a Boca Raton Democrat, said she wants the retired Army Lieutenant Colonel taking on Republican U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody in November. She pointed to Vindman’s history as a whistleblower against President Donald Trump; his congressional testimony contributed to the President’s first impeachment.
“Alex has called out corruption at the highest levels of government, regardless of politics or the personal cost to him and his family. We need a leader in the Senate who is willing to take on the establishment and fight the corruption in Washington that is allowing special interests to raise our costs and rip away our health care,” Polsky said.
“I am proud to endorse Alex because I know he will be a fighter for everyday Floridians, unlike Ashley Moody who is only fighting for herself and her billionaire donors.”
Polsky, who announced in May that she won’t seek re-election to her own seat, has served in the Legislature for the last eight years, representing parts of Palm Beach and Broward counties in the House and Senate. From the minority, she has advocated for gun safety and abortion access, as well as medical, marriage, voting and women’s rights.
Vindman welcomed the support.
“I am honored to have Senator Polsky in my corner as we fight to lower costs for everyday Floridians,” Vindman said. “Floridians are fed up with my opponent, career politician Ashley Moody, who continues to give a free pass to Big Pharma, large insurance companies, and utility monopolies that are jacking up our costs. I’m not taking a dime from corporate PACs and in the U.S. Senate, I will be laser-focused on cutting costs and delivering for Floridians’ best interests.”
The endorsement came shortly after Senate Minority Leader Lori Berman announced her support for his campaign.
While Vindman has focused his rhetoric on Moody, the support from sitting lawmakers could prove most valuable as he faces state Rep. Angie Nixon, a Jacksonville Democrat, in an Aug. 18 Primary to decide who advances to the U.S. Senate General Election.
