A statewide Democratic organization dedicated to electing women who support access to abortion care is backing 16 candidates in races ranging from Chief Financial Officer to City Council.
Ruth’s List Florida, a nonprofit founded in 2008 by former CFO Alex Sink, has announced its latest round of endorsements. All are “pro-choice” candidates, the group said.
Atop the list is former Sen. Annette Taddeo, who is running to unseat appointed Republican CFO Blaise Ingoglia.
Ruth’s List worked to recruit Taddeo to challenge Ingoglia this year, even commissioning a poll in May that found she would lead the incumbent in a head-to-head matchup. Sink endorsed Taddeo last month.
In the Legislature, Ruth’s List is backing former Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book, who is running for Senate District 30; Miami Rep. Ashley Gantt in Senate District 34; Sen. Rosalind Osgood in Senate District 32; Rep. Emily Gregory in House District 37; and candidates Lisa Klein and Lindsay Polega-Quigley in House Districts 73 and 60, respectively.
In County Commission races, the organization is endorsing Miami-Dade County Commissioners Marleine Bastien and Danielle Cohen Higgins, and former Rep. Katherine Waldron, who is running for Palm Beach County Commission District 6.
In School Board races, the Ruth’s List slate includes incumbent Maura McCarthy Bulman in Broward District 1, candidate Megan Tennimon in Sarasota County District 4 and candidate Nancy Velardi in Pinellas County District 2.
And at the city level, endorsees include Tallahassee Mayor Loranne Ausley, North Miami Vice Mayor Kassandra Timothe, and Dylana “Dee” Galery, who is seeking the District 4 seat on the Palm Coast Council.
“For nearly two decades, Ruth’s List has been quietly doing the hardest work in politics — finding extraordinary women, convincing them to run, and preparing them to compete,” Ruth’s List Florida CEO Christina Diamond said.
“The 16 women we’re endorsing today … are the direct result of that sustained investment. But we’re not stepping back now. Every one of these women will have our team beside them — raising money, building coalitions, and executing the kind of hands-on campaign support that turns great candidates into elected officials.”
Ruth’s List, which has helped elect more than 300 women to office since its founding, describes itself as a leading voice for reproductive freedom in Florida, championing women’s right to access abortion care and make their own medical decisions.
This election cycle, the organization previously endorsed Lee County School Board member Debbie Jordan, Osceola School Board member Heather Kahoun, Hillsborough County Commissioner Gwen Myers, Alachua School Board member Sarah Rockwell, Palm Beach Gardens Mayor Rachelle Litt, St. Petersburg Council member Lissett Hanewicz, Sarasota City Commissioner Jen Ahearn-Koch, former Palm Beach County School Board member Erica Whitfield in her bid for the County Commission’s District 2 seat, House District 113 candidate Gloria Romero Roses Lee County School Board candidate India Palencia, Kissimmee City Commission candidate Angela Eady, Sarasota City Commission candidate Flo Enter and Gulfport City Council candidate Jennifer Webb.
Between the November 2024 election and June 19, the most recent date from which campaign finance data is available on the Florida Division of Elections website, Ruth’s List has raised about $981,000 and spent roughly $915,500.
The Primary is Aug. 18, followed by the General Election on Nov. 3.
