Progress Florida and Florida Watch are out with their 2026 “People First” Report Card which grades lawmakers on votes taken during the Regular and Special Sessions this year.
The organizations handed out three dozen “A” grades, with every one going to a Democratic lawmaker. That group includes nine Senators and 27 House members. Nineteen lawmakers — four Senators and 15 Representatives — received perfect scores.
The People First Report Card scores lawmakers based on 29 House votes and 24 Senate votes selected by the organizations. The issues span voting rights, affordability and the economy, healthcare and reproductive freedom, civil rights, education, climate change, public lands and immigration.
Among the measures incorporated into the grades were votes involving congressional redistricting, property taxes, school vaccination requirements, local clean-energy programs, AIDS drug assistance and voter-list maintenance.
“Gov. DeSantis and legislative leadership should have been laser-focused on Florida’s affordability crisis, which is putting the American Dream further out of reach for many families,” said Progress Florida Executive Director Mark Ferrulo. “Instead, they spent much of the session fighting amongst themselves and chasing clicks in the far-right corners of social media, rather than offering practical solutions to help our communities.”
Among Senators earning perfect scores were Democratic Leader Lori Berman and Sens. LaVon Bracy Davis, Rosalind Osgood and Carlos Guillermo Smith. The House had 15 perfect scores, including Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell, accounting for the bulk of the lawmakers who voted with the organizations on every measure they scored.
“Floridians desperately need serious lawmakers who are focused on enacting practical ways to improve our lives,” said Natasha Sutherland, Executive Director of Florida Watch. “The ‘People First’ Report Card is a great tool for Floridians to discern whether their state legislators are truly working for them, or captive to wealthy donors and hyperpartisan politics.”
