Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia distributed about $24.25 million combined to a half-dozen Central Florida law enforcement agencies for their work on immigration enforcement.
Ingoglia announced during a news conference at the Lake County Sheriff’s Office headquarters the money is coming from the State Board of Immigration Enforcement. The funds were distributed to Sheriff’s Offices in Lake, Osceola, Orange and Sumter counties, along with the Clermont and St. Cloud Police Departments.
“Florida will continue to lead on protecting our citizens. Florida will continue to lead on law enforcement,” Ingoglia said during a check presentation ceremony. “Florida doesn’t shy away from problems, we solve them.”
Osceola County Sheriff’s Office got the biggest cut of funding with an $11.44 million reimbursement Tuesday, along with a separate check of $223,878. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office was provided with a reimbursement of $10.8 million. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a reimbursement of $1.24 million, while Sumter County Sheriff’s Office received $531,678.
The St. Cloud Police Department was provided a $38,000 reimbursement, while Clermont Police Department got $16,471.
Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon said immigration enforcement is part of local law enforcement more than most residents realize. He said the reimbursements go directly to funding equipment and other costs incurred by his agency.
“This stuff is important to our taxpayers and our agency,” Blackmon said. “We use this money for body armor. Every deputy has brand new body armor.”
Reimbursing law enforcement agencies for immigration work is a tradition Ingoglia started about a year ago shortly after being appointed CFO by Gov. Ron DeSantis. He filled the position previously held by Jimmy Patronis, who went on to get elected Representative for Florida’s 1st Congressional District in the Panhandle.
Ingoglia’s last check presentation for immigration enforcement to local law enforcement agencies was in early June. He provided $166,000 in combined reimbursements to law enforcement agencies in Marion, Bradford and Dixie counties.
Earlier in January, Ingoglia distributed reimbursements to five law enforcement departments, handing out more than $1.78 million in funds. In October, he distributed $1.8 million to five law enforcement agencies in Northeast Florida.
