Gov. Ron DeSantis is helping to mark Florida’s history by promoting the state’s display at the Great American State Fair in the nation’s capital.
DeSantis marked the opening of the Florida Pavilion, which offers displays that explain the “Free State of Florida” and details the Sunshine State historical hallmarks over several centuries.
All 50 states and six U.S. territories are taking part in the Great American State Fair running from June 25 through July 10 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The fair was organized by Freedom 250 to mark the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
“As our nation celebrates 250 years of independence, Florida is proud to showcase the culture and history that has helped shape America and continues to define our state’s success,” DeSantis said in a news release Wednesday.
“From our unmatched natural beauty to our thriving agriculture and world-class attractions, Florida’s pavilion will give visitors from across the country a taste of everything that makes the Free State of Florida exceptional.”
Florida’s pavilion at the Great American State Fair has multiple interactive displays and experiences. Of course, beginning the “journey” in the pavilion are displays featuring St. Augustine, known as the Nation’s Oldest City. It then transitions to elements of explorer Juan Ponce de Leon.
There are “five signature experiences” in the pavilion, according to the state. One features Florida’s history with invention with connections to Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin. Another focuses on the Florida manatee. Other highlights include features on natural resources, agricultural influences and tourism.
The pavilion concludes with Florida’s role in space exploration, which is anchored on the Space Coast.
Multiple companies and agencies are supporting the displays and experiences through sponsorships. One of the main agencies involved is VISIT FLORIDA, the state’s tourism development bureau.
“Visit Florida is proud to contribute to the Florida Pavilion at the Great American State Fair to celebrate America and share Florida’s incredible story,” said Bryan Griffin, President and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA.
“Visitors to the Florida Pavilion will be able to explore Florida’s long history, natural treasures, and current landmarks as they walk through the exhibit, and experience the important role our state has played in America’s story. We will showcase the people, places, innovation, and courage that made our state — and even offer a few fun Florida giveaways.”
