Florida Polytechnic University is moving forward with plans for a new Student Achievement Center on its Lakeland campus.
The school unveiled renderings for the 138,000-square-foot facility. Officials are planning to have the structure open within two years.
The three-story building carries an estimated $ 87 million price tag and will feature a curved roofline and a glass façade designed for natural light and an open interior. The “ultramodern” structure will provide support for students enrolled in the school who are pursuing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) studies.
Florida Poly officials say the facility will help lead the school’s expansion and modernization plans in the coming years.
“The Student Achievement Center represents the next chapter in Florida Poly’s extraordinary growth,” said President Devin Stephenson.
“This remarkable facility will transform the student experience and become the heartbeat of a thriving campus community. It reflects our commitment to building a world-class STEM university where students have every opportunity to excel, both in the classroom and beyond.”
HOK is leading the design, building on the campus’s original master plan by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and his associated firm. Skanska Building will handle construction.
“The foundational idea was to create this building as a cornerstone of the student experience,” said HOK Design Principal Michel Borg.
University officials are aiming to break ground in the Spring. They’re hoping to complete construction in the Fall of 2028. The project is part of a broader push to grow enrollment on the Lakeland campus to 3,000 students by 2030 — a 28% increase over current enrollment.
“Seeing these impressive designs gives us a clear look at where Florida Poly is headed,” said Beth Kigel, Chair of the Polytech Board of Trustees.
“The Student Achievement Center fills an essential need on our growing campus, enriching student life and delivering a vibrant environment that reflects the high caliber of our students and faculty. It is a critical investment in the university’s future, and in the campus we are building for generations of students to come.”
