Florida Polytechnic University has achieved the largest one-year performance gain among all state universities, according to the Florida Board of Governors’ 2025-26 performance-based funding model.

Its performance helped the school draw down $11 million in performance-based funding in the state budget, which Gov. Ron DeSantis signed Monday.

Florida Poly earned 87 out of 100 on the funding model, which is based on 10 metrics. The school earned maximum scores in six of the measures.

“This milestone demonstrates what is possible when an institution is relentlessly focused on student success. It is a testament to the dedication of our faculty and staff, who challenge and support our students every day to achieve exceptional outcomes,” Florida Poly President Devin Stephenson said.

“Every decision we make is centered on delivering a rigorous STEM education that equips graduates with the knowledge, experience, and skills employers need. These results affirm that our approach is working.”

Florida Poly leads the state in the median wage metric that evaluates how much graduates earn one year after graduation. While not part of this metric, Florida Poly also leads the state in median wages five years after graduation, according to new Florida Department of Education data.

The Lakeland-based STEM institution also earned top marks for awarding all of its degrees in Programs of Strategic Emphasis, areas the State University System and the Board of Governors have identified as critical to the state’s economic growth. That’s not surprising though; Florida Poly is the state’s only public higher education institution dedicated exclusively to STEM education, positioning the school as a leader in high-demand fields.

The school also earned high marks on the performance metrics for its 19% increase in the four-year graduation rate, which indicates that students are increasingly graduating on time.

“Florida’s Performance-Based Funding Model is a key component of our nation-leading success, and I am enthusiastic each summer to see the year-over-year improvements our universities make for the benefit of our students, faculty, communities, and the state’s economy,” Board of Governors Chair Alan Levine said.
