TALLAHASSEE — The 2023 Florida Legislature — in what was dubbed “the Session of the Century” — set a high-water mark for conservative cooperation, with the Republican majority passing several signature measures including universal school vouchers, a near-total ban on abortion and allowing people to carry concealed weapons without a permit.
“We committed to collaboration over competition,” Paul Renner, who was speaker of the House during that session, said at a meeting of the Capital Tiger Bay Club in December of 2023.
